This week I thought I’d share a real wedding with you as it’s been a while & Andrea & Peter’s destination wedding in Croatia is just too good not to share!
Andrea & Peter got married on 29th May 2015 in Split, Croatia in a beautiful park overlooking the sea.
“My husband has fond memories of the park we hired, rather than a church or a Registry Office, with the green open space, trees and views of the Adriatic Sea and Split Marina making a perfect setting.”
I met Andrea through a mutual friend at a cake club & I was excited to hear all about her wedding plans, of course! It was clear that she did not want a traditional wedding when she began describing her beautiful dress. Andrea says that she didn’t have a theme as such…
“I had never dreamed of having a traditional wedding. Since my partner and I are from different countries we decided to bring our families together for a vacation style wedding. I pictured it to be a relaxing family holiday ending up with our wedding. Well, it was relaxing for them!”
When Andrea came to the studio to chat about her bouquet & showed me a picture of her dress I knew this was going to be a beautiful wedding to work on. She was clearly excited about wearing her dress & having a bouquet made to compliment the gorgeous pastel tones.
“My wedding dress was so special and unique to me. I always knew that a white wedding dress wasn’t for me and was so lucky to come across the magical fairy wedding dresses made by Croatian, Zagreb based designer Sandra Haddad.”
Andrea has this advice for brides choosing their dress…
“My advice is while you might have an idea of what type of dress is perfect for you, go and try as many dresses as you can just to make sure that the choice is right, plus it is great fun!”
I was able to colour match fabrics to the different colours in her dress to compliment it without matching too closely. Andrea wanted a mixture of different flowers including my favourites – the pom poms – & it is still 1 of my all time favourite bouquets I’ve made.
It also travelled really with no risk of wilting in the heat, prefect destination flower solution! It obviously look fairly realistic too as a waiter mistakenly popped it in some water later in the day…
“It was so perfect that a waiter at the restaurant mistook the bouquet for real-flowers and put it in a vase with water… luckily my sister spotted his error and quickly retrieved it and dried the stem… phew!”
When asked which products and services Andrea & Peter were most impressed by on their wedding day the dress, photography, flowers & cake came out on top. Andrea recommends making sure you choose the right photographer in particular…
“My advice is to hire the best photographer you can afford as the memories captured of your special day are the ones that will stay with you forever and end up decorating your walls.”
Andrea & Peter have this advise for couples currently planning their big day…
“Try not to get influenced by family/culture/friends expectations and take time to think as a couple what you would like your day to be like. Advanced detailed planning will help to reduce stress as your big day approaches. Before you make any big wedding decisions such as venue/menu make sure to do your research on everything and anything. Research will either point you to the right direction or confirm you are heading right way. And base yourself close to the venue, as travel time to and from places quickly adds stress!”
Andrea was also kind enough to share her feelings about her bouquet… my brides really are the best!
“I was very fortunate that Kate from DaphneRosa is a good friend of a former neighbour. We met at a Great British Bake Off party in Cambridge where we had way too much cake! Kate told me about flowers bouquets she makes out of fabric and I was truly fascinated and curious to learn more as I had never before heard of such a thing. I loved Kate’s story of making her own wedding flowers and the way her craft developed from there. As soon I saw Kate’s work I knew that the original flower bouquet idea goes perfectly with my personality and the fact I get to keep it forever and possibly start my own family tradition passing it down to the next generation. After I picked my wedding dress I met Kate in her impressive studio where she showed me many of her designs and presented me with fabrics and colour schemes that complemented my wedding dress perfectly. I absolutely adore my bouquet that is now kept in a vase on top of the dresser in our bedroom.”
