June's Birth Flower Meaning And Gift Ideas For June Birthdays

What is the birth flower for June?

June birthday’s are associated with one of the most popular flowers of all time, the rose. Although there are actually two birth flowers you can choose from for June, the rose and the honeysuckle, the rose is generally the most popular choice.

What is the meaning of June’s birth flower?

As one of the world’s most popular flowers, the rose has been loved for many centuries, for its classic beauty and fine fragrance. There is even fossil evidence to indicate that Roses have been around for 35 million years!

The ancient Greeks and Romans connected rose to love and passion, associating them with the goddesses Aphrodite and Venus. The ancient Egyptians used roses as offerings to the Gods and the Romans created huge public rose gardens to celebrate the flower. Roses have always been cherished to this day.

Which Rose to gift?

With over 100 different types of roses in all the colours it can be difficult to know which one to gift for which occasion. Of course it is lovely to receive flowers at anytime but there are some rough guidelines about which colours best suit which occasions, as follows;

Red - a symbol of beauty, passion and desire, red roses are most usually given to show romantic love. Most commonly given to celebrate Valentine’s day or an anniversary, red roses are a symbol of love but can also be gifted to celebrate an achievement which is why you often see them thrown on stage after a performance.

White - is often said to represent innocence and purity and is gifted to celebrate new beginnings. But it is known to symbolise deep love so is often used in wedding bouquets and decorations.

Yellow - in Victorian times a yellow rose was said to signify jealousy and accused the recipient of infidelity but nowadays it’s most common association is with friendship. Sending a friend a yellow rose sends a message of cheer and joy which can make them an ideal ‘get well soon’ gift or to congratulate someone on a happy occasion, such as a new baby.

Pink - in general pink roses symbolise admiration, elegance and happiness but even the shade of pink can signify something different, with paler roses representing grace and sweetness and deeper pinks signifying gratitude. Pink roses are very versatile and can given for a range of occasions but are a good choice at the beginning of a relationship when red roses might send too strong a message.

How many roses to gift?

Not only does the colour indicate intention when giving roses, the number can be important too. A single red rose can mean love or love at first sight.

Whereas a dozen red roses says ‘I love you’, which makes them a popular choice for Valentine’s day and anniversaries.

What does June’s birth flower say about your personality?

As we know, Roses have many different meanings depending on their colour. They can show love and passion, friendship, gratitude and many more, which makes them a very versatile flower to gift for all sorts of occasions.

Despite this they have been most commonly known, over the years, to represent love, beauty, honour, faith and devotion.

If you are born in June it is said that you are a true romantic. You probably get along well with people easily, have many friends and wear your heart on your sleeve.
